For those looking to re-register their conversion to an RV (for better insurance coverage and cost), here's a quick breakdown of the required items for my personal build that I just re-registered yesterday. The requirements will be slightly different per state.
1. Weight slip - get the truck weighed at a CAT scale. You can download the app and weigh the truck without ever even getting out of the truck. They will send you a PDF of the weight slip which you can just print out and bring to the DMV.
2. Pictures - I had to take pictures of the outside of the truck from front, side and rear angles. Printed all of the pictures on a single piece of paper.
3. Rebuild Form - This form details the changes made to the vehicle. You'll basically just write out a few sentences explaining the features you added to make it into an RV. Some states have specific requirements on the features that need to be added.
4. Registration/Title application - Standard title application to register+title the vehicle.
5. Vehicle inspection report - typical state inspection form verifying drivability of the vehicle. Cost $7 and took about 10 minutes at a local Valvoline.
6. Original Title.
There was no in-person inspection for mine though I've heard some states/counties will do a walk through just to verify you did actually add the necessary components. It was a very painless process for me and one of the few times I ever got what I needed to do complete in one single trip to the DMV.
I'm going to be shopping for RV insurance in the next few days and I'll provide insights on that once I get some.
